New version of the Shotgun system

Shotgun Software has announced version 5.0 of its Shotgun system, a production tracking and management system designed for visual effects (VFX) and animation teams.

This update features a revamped interface and new tracking, review and approval tools that facilitate centralized data management. In addition, collaboration and search features are included, allowing users to connect to key tasks and updates, as well as stay in touch with other members of their team from different locations.

Shotgun 5.0 has been designed following customer requests for simpler and more visual views, including:

  • The new view mode called “My Task” collects project information in a new format that Shotgun Software describes as a “news feed”. It also shows who else is working on a given project.
  • Another new feature is the inbox, which collects notes and other important updates related to one’s work. It is possible to customize it through the “follow” option, which allows you to follow the progress of specific plans and assets, or even filter some updates that are not relevant to the user’s work but you want to be informed.
  • Finally, a search process (“Global Search”) has been added that provides a list of results in the same “news channel” layout.

In this video you can take a first look at the features of the latest version:

Shotgun 5.0 is priced at $49 per month per user. Revolver and Tank, previously available as stand-alone products, are now included in the package.

Pricing for corporate and institutional clients can be requested from sales@shotgunsoftware.com.

From this link you can download the free 30-day trial to start testing Shotgun, and on this page there are a lot of tutorials that will help you while you learn how to use it.

I leave you the first of them to serve as an introduction:

And if you are interested in the creation of visual effects you may find useful the SGO Mistika(Introduction and basics or the specific Composition and effects) and Autodesk Smoke courses, scheduled for next June.
