German company Weisscam has announced, after two years of development and demonstrations, that at the upcoming NAB 2012 it will present its new T-CAM high-speed camera.
Although we do not yet know its price or when it will be available, its main features have been announced.
The new T-CAM will be able to record at up to 350fps, a frame rate well below that of other Weisscam cameras, such as the HS-2, capable of capturing up to 1500fps in 2K. However, this small camera outperforms its companion in some other factors, such as its 12-stop dynamic range.
Included in the camera design is a 2/3″ sensor, as well as Super 16 and Super 35 versions capable of up to 4K (HS-2 could only go up to 2K) and a sensitivity of up to 600 ISO.
Another of its most notable features is that it has a modular design, similar to that of the RedOne, which allows users to change sensors to adapt them to their work or update the cameras to new sensors as they become available.
Like the rest of the Weisscam cameras, this one can record in HD (with 10-bit output) or RAW (12-bit), and capturing over industry-standard recorders can reach up to 1,200Mb/s. The company is also working on bringing out its own HD+RAW recorder, which it demonstrated at last year’s NAB along with a prototype of the T-CAM.
We will have to wait until it is presented in Las Vegas in mid-April to find out more. In the meantime, in this video (showreel by Stefan Weiss, director of photography and creator of the first HS-1) you can see some examples made with Weisscam cameras.
