A few days ago Nvidia, developer of the renowned graphics cards of the same name, unveiled its new Iray plugins for the Autodesk Maya 3D modeling and animation system.
Already earlier this month launched the version for 3ds Max (also from Autodesk) and now they are extending its functionality by targeting a wider group of users.
These plug-ins are based on a technology that generates photorealistic images by simulating the behavior of light and materials, following the laws of physics.
Iray takes advantage of the adaptive performance of Nvidia GPUs, accurately predicting the outcome of a design and thus reducing the number of prototypes required. This greatly accelerates all rendering processes, so designers can quickly see the outcome of their models, adjust them on the fly and get very fast feedback.
In addition, thanks to the MDL(Material Definition Language) it is possible to share materials between applications or between other processors using MDL while maintaining a consistent result.
Iray plugins are available for $295, but can be tested without limitations for 90 days(click here for either option). Apart from 3ds Max and Maya, there are also versions for Revit and Rhinoceros.
