Since a few days ago we have on the market the expected Odyssey7Q, a 7.7-inch OLED video recorder and monitor designed by Convergent Design.

Although it was planned for August, distribution of the only recorder with the possibility of buying or renting additional features has started this month.

Priced at $2,295, it is capable of uncompressed RGB HD recording on 2.5 GB SSDs (256 GB for $395 and/or 512 GB for $795). Also included in the purchase price is the ability to record with compression, which will be added in a free firmware update.

The good news is that prices for unlocking certain formats have dropped considerably since the company’s original announcement last May. For example, ARRIRAW has dropped to $1,995 from $2,995, and Sony F700 raw has been reduced to $795 instead of $1,500, although the latter will no longer be available for rental on a per-day basis.

Apart from these two formats, additional recording capabilities include 2K raw (8 or 10 bit up to 120fps), Canon 4K raw and multistream recording, with 4 cameras in 1080p YCC up to 30fps.
