Quantel unveiled its new 8K 60p workflow at the Inter BEE show in Japan.
Thanks to a revamped software version of Pablo Rio and hardware from NVIDIA and AJA, users will be able to get real time at the highest resolution ever tested.
Pablo Rio is one of Quantel’s color correction and finishing systems, and now features software optimized to support 5GB/s, which is the performance required to record, process or playback 8K 60p. Also added to the new configuration are NVIDIA Tesla K80 GPU accelerators for real-time processing, and real-time input and output over 16 3G SDI interfaces using AJA Corvid 88 cards.
At the Inter BEE celebration, the system shown included four AJA Corvid 88 cards, three Tesla K80 accelerators and three RAID 60 arrays providing 166 minutes of storage. The footage had a resolution of 7680 x 4320 and was recorded in 422 at 59.95fps. In addition, a virtual 8K display consisting of four 4K monitors was created in order to display the footage in real time.
The company has announced that its new Pablo Rio will be available next year. And if you want to learn color correction in the meantime, I recommend you take a look at our classroom and online courses.
