Panasonic AJ-CX4000, the new ENG

Panasonic introduces its new AJ-CX4000 AJ-CX4000 camera designed for ENG equipment recordings, usually used in television news. The industry is increasingly betting on smaller equipment, although shoulder cameras have always been somewhat more robust to give more stability and be versatile in all types of productions.

Panasonic launches its new 4K and HDR-compatible model to revolutionize this market. The sensor design is precisely designed to accommodate today’s recordings and prepare for tomorrow’s. Panasonic has implemented large single sensor internal expansion lens technology. Panasonic has implemented large single sensor internal expansion lens technology. What does this mean? That even though the camera has a 4.4k sensor, the B4-type lens mount allows optics designed for two-thirds-inch sensors to be used on cameras with a one-inch sensor. This way you have a two-in-one, so to speak, without having to change cameras and without worrying about loss of image quality or output by not varying the depth of field.

To cover some of the problems that can arise with a larger sensor, Panasonic has designed an internal expansion lens that expands the 2/3 image circle to cover the sensor.

As a new feature Panasonic has announced that the new AJ-CX4000 is HDR compatible by supporting HLG and monitor selection in both SDR and HDR. It allows to select in the viewfinder and LCD the output in SDR or HDR. As for recording formats, it allows recording .mov files in Ultra High Definition with 10-bit color depth and a sampling rate of 4:2:2 at 60 frames per second. Other recording files supported by the camera are AVC-Intra, MXFP2. It allows UHD output through its 12G-SDI SDI and also allows recording to ExpressP2, SDXC or MicroP2 cards.

As usual in this type of cameras, it has HDMI output , USB 3.0 and 2.0, timecode input and output with GenLock. For sound it has two XLR connections for microphone input and is capable of recording four-channel digital sound either by line, wireless or microphone.

For remote control of the camera, especially for live broadcasts, this can be done via IP.

Right now it is not for sale although from what we have learned, it is possible that they will start selling later this month.
