Panasonic introduces the new AU-EVA1

Panasonic unveiled its new 5.7K camera, called AU-EVA1, during the Cine Gear exhibition.

It is a compact and lightweight camera (1.2Kg body), specially designed for handheld camera, but also easily adaptable to other types of videos such as documentaries, commercials or video clips.

According to Panasonic, they realized that, for a cinematic style, they had a gap between the GH5 and VariCam LT that they needed to fill. That’s why they developed the EVA 1, which features a 5.7K Super 35mm sensor capable of capturing images in 5.7K, 4K, UHD, 2K and even 720p.

It uses an EF lens mount and features the EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) system. It also comes with a built-in ND filter with 2, 4 and 6 stops.

One of its greatest virtues is that it has the native Dual ISO of the VariCam, which allows you to switch to a higher sensitivity without increasing the noise level. Also shared with the VariCam is the ability to capture in V-Log/V-Gamut, for a wider dynamic range.

The EVA1 uses SD cards as recording media, and allows capturing in different formats, compression ratios and speeds. For 4K recording it achieves 10-bit 4:2:2 and in 2K it is possible to reach 240fps. As for bitrate, the maximum is 400 Mbps.

In terms of connections, the camera has two balanced XLR inputs and HDMI and SDI output. Panasonic has announced that with a later firmware update will come the ability to output 5.7K RAW to external recorders.

The new AU-EVA1 is expected to launch this fall for a price of less than $8,000 (for the camera body).
