Panasonic has just added a new member to the VariCam family, which until now included the VariCam 35, LT and HS models. The new camera is called VariCam Pure, and has the ability to generate uncompressed 4K raw files at up to 120fps.
For recording, it uses Codex’s Capture Drive units; in fact, the camera system has been designed jointly by the two companies (Panasonic and Codex). Then, once the files have been captured, a simple workflow has been established that uses the Production Suite (also from Codex) to deliver ProRes or other necessary codecs, as well as perform color management and color correction or review tasks.
The VariCam Pure features a 4K Super 35 sensor, 14 stops of dynamic range and dual ISO 800/5000. Looking at the exterior, it measures 144 x 165 x 262mm and weighs 5Kg.
Panasonic has also just announced VariCam ROP (Remote Operation Panel), an iPad app that allows remote control of any of the VariCam series cameras. It comes with an interface very similar to the camera’s menus to make the user feel comfortable operating it.
Also, as we told you last week, the VariCam 35, LT and HS have received new updates. Here is the link to the post where you can read more about them.
