Panasonic releases new firmware for its range of LUMIX cameras

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Panasonic has announced the release of new firmware for its LUMIX DSLR camera range. Firmware 1.2 will be available from July 9 and will support the Full Frame S1 and S1R models which will also feature the DMW-SFU2 update. The GH5, GH5S, G9, G95, G85, and GX9 cameras will also get their firmware update.

The improvements integrated in this update include a better stabilization system gaining half a step. They have managed to reach 6 steps from the 5.5 that had its previous version. These changes will mainly affect the S1 and S1R models. Focus tracking will also be strengthened in this version and Panasonic has included two new autofocus options : Near Shift and Far Shift. In this way, even if we are in automatic mode, we will be able to select whether we want the camera to focus on close objects or objects farther away.

As already announced, the DMW-FSU2 of the S1 will be upgraded, but to upgrade it you will have to pay $199. Here the improvements are more focused on the video mode, since it will be possible to record in 4K 4:2:2 at 10-bit color depth and 150 Mbps with LongGOP compression at 30 frames per second. If we want to increase the number of frames per second to 60, the color depth is reduced to 8 bits and 4:2:0 sampling. As is already common in many DSLR models, the S1 will be able to record at 60 fps 10 bits 422 through an external recorder.

To control the video signal, a waveform monitor display has been integrated. We will also be able to record better audio thanks to the internal configuration of the XLR adapter, but we will need the Panasonic DMW-XLR1 adapter.

On the micro 4:3 models, the aperture system has been improved and smoothed through new firmware. In addition, they will be compatible with the Leica DG VARIO SUMMILUX 10-25mm f1.7 lens.

There is very little time left to start testing these updates proposed by Panasonic.
