Panavision has unveiled the first details about its new Millennium Digital XL camera, a joint development between RED, Panavision and Light Iron.
RED has been in charge of the sensor part, as this camera has a Dragon 8K, full frame 35mm sensor. Of course, it must be taken into account that in order to cover this resolution, Panavision’s large format lenses are necessary.
On the other hand, Light Iron has developed camera color science (more specific information on this topic has not yet been provided).
We don’t know too much about the new DXL yet, but we can tell you that it will record in 4K in ProRes or DNxHD and will be able to simultaneously capture RAW files in 8K. In addition, there will be a mode compatible with anamorphic lenses.
As for the recording speed, it will reach 60fps in 8K. It has multiple inputs and outputs, a menu display on both sides and the ability to work with LUTs.
