Participate Méliès video contest

This Friday, July 26, begins the video contest “Participate Méliès“, organized by CaixaForum Madrid.

Participants must record a video with a duration not exceeding 3 minutes, using any available means (camera, cell phones, tablets).

This video must meet certain conditions, such as being unpublished (it must be recorded after July 24), be silent (no direct sound) and the music used must be in the public domain or have the corresponding rights(see complete contest rules).

In addition, since Méliès is the inventor of special effects, if you participate you must include at least one of the following tricks in your short film:

• Substitution: making objects and people appear and disappear.
• Overprinting: this trick allows you for example to duplicate the same character inside the screen or to make objects fly as if they came to life.
• Scale games: making miniature objects look life-size, turning people into giants or dwarfs, etc.

Once you have finished your video, you must upload it to YouTube, Vimeo or Daily Motion and then copy the URL to the contest website, in the “Participate with your video” section.

There are three possible awards:

• Best video: awarded with the Canon EOS 6D camera. It will be awarded to the most imaginative and original video that, inspired by the films of Méliès, demonstrates creativity from today’s perspective.
• Imagination to the power: awarded with the Canon EOS M camera . It will be won by the short film containing the best tricks of high ingenuity and low cost.
• Audience Award: awarded with a Canon EOS M camera. It will be chosen through online and in-person voting during the Awards Gala, which will take place on November 15 at CaixaForum Madrid.

The first two prizes are chosen by a professional jury, composed of three members of recognized prestige related to film directing and special effects.
