It seems that Santa Claus has left a gift for ultra-high-speed camera lovers, the new Phantom v2010.
This model, developed by Vision Research, is capable of capturing over 22,000fps at 1280×800 (the camera’s highest resolution), or over 25,000fps at 1280×720. This means capturing data at over 22 Gigapixels per second, almost 40% faster than the Phantom v1610.
Features include a 35.8mm x 22.4mm sensor, with 28 micro pixels that increase sensitivity in low-light situations and 12-bit depth recording.
The memories will be configurable with 24GB, 48GB or 96GB, segmented into a maximum of 63 partitions to achieve multiple (short) shots without the need to download the files.
For downloading, the 10Gb Ethernet connection or a connected CineMag can be used, where it would take about 90 seconds to save a 96GB shot, with transfer rates of 1GB/sec.
The material can be accessed by playing CineMag through the camera itself or by using the Phantom CineStation CineMag reader that connects to a computer via Ethernet.
The camera has a ventilation system that reduces heat, but this can be temporarily turned off if vibrations could ruin the shot, such as in microscopic photography,
The new Phantom v2010 will be launched in early February, opening the door to those who need to capture beyond the naked eye.
