The DPX Header Editor software, created by Pomfort, allows you to edit the header information in DPX image sequences.
One of its utilities is to add a SMPTE time code, for example, if we are using an external recorder that does not allow us to generate it. In addition, this Pomfort software is optimized for Codex and S-Two field recorders.
It can also be used to update certain metadata fields or to edit them in post-production for conforming.
In addition to allowing editing of individual (DPX) files, DPX Header Editor is designed to modify sets of image sequences with durations up to 100,000 files at high speed.
The editable metadata fields are as follows:
Individual fields
- DPX Creator
- DPX Project Name
- DPX Reel Name
- DPX Input Device (Reel Name used by Quantel systems).
- DPX Slate Info
- DPX Image Description
Image sequence information
- DPX SMPTE Timecode
- DPX TV FrameRate
- DPX SMPTE TimecodeDropFlag
DPX Header Editor can be downloaded from here, where you will find a trial version that can be used as a metadata viewer but offers a reduced setting of the writing fields.
When downloading the trial, the first thing that will appear is this window, where you will see that the use of this software is very simple.
The following image shows the viewer, which informs us of all the available metadata. The boxes with a pencil next to them are the ones we can modify.
If when you try to modify the metadata you see this image do not be surprised, it is because in the trial version only “DPX Creator” and “DPX Project Name” can be edited.
The last step is to apply the changes made, either by creating new DPXs or by overwriting the original ones.
The permanent license of DPX Header Editor can be purchased here for $129 (89€).
It is likely that if you are involved in this task of modifying metadata, it is because you are doing data wrangler or DIT work, or you are interested in it. If so, I recommend you to take a look at the DIT course, which will take place next July. In this page you can find all the information.
