Blackmagic Design has released a firmware update that provides ProRes recording capability for the URSA camera and fixes some existing bugs in the other models.
This update is called Blackmagic Camera Utility 2.0 and its most notable feature is ProRes 4444 recording in HD and 4K resolutions for the URSA camera. This means that many users will be able to benefit from greater color sampling than previously and easier workflows for post-production.
However, if we record in ProRes 4444 we will have to take into account that storage needs increase. While a UHD clip recorded with ProRes 422 HQ has a transfer rate of 880 Mbps, and another recorded in ProRes 422 is 589 Mbps, the amount of data we move in ProRes 4444 amounts to 1320 Mbps.
As for the rest of the cameras, these are the new features included:
- Studio Camera 4KFiber optic output performance improvements.
- Studio CameraStudio Camera: Fixed a bug that caused the “overlay” settings not to be saved and not to appear on the screen after turning off the camera.
- Pocket Cinema CameraPocket Cinema Camera: Fixed a bug that caused frame loss when recording in ProRes LT and Proxy.
- Cinema CameraPerformance enhancements.
