Red Digital Cinema has announced an update that will support DNxHD and DNxHR codecs within the DSMC2 camera lineup, which includes the Weapon, Scarlet-W and Raven.
Avid codes are capable of working with HD (the DNxHD), 2K, 4K and higher resolutions (the DNxHR for these larger resolutions).
In this way, Red makes it easier for its cameras to be integrated into Media Composer workflows, eliminating the need for intermediate transcoding. In addition, it is possible to capture these codecs simultaneously with Redcode Raw, thus generating one file with all possible information and another for editing.
This will be done through a free firmware update that will be released by the end of the year. The company has said that more formats will be available, but for the moment these are the only ones they have unveiled.
