A few days ago Red Giant launched its collection Magic Bullet Suite 12an update that comes with a brand new software called Magic Bullet Film and enhanced versions of Magic Bullet Looks, Colorista III, Mojo and Cosmo.
The first important point is that all of these applications were previously in the Color Suite, but are now back in the original Magic Bullet collection. This is simply because the company has realized that, despite the name change introduced a few years ago, people still referred to Magic Bullet when they wanted to talk about the color tools.
The software included in Magic Bullet Suite are the following:
Magic Bullet Film
The new piece in the collection is Magic Bullet Film, which emulates a lot of photochemical styles starting from the original negative, with its color correction and final print.
It has 22 film types and 4 print types, and the “Vintage/Modern” slider, which pulls the colors to one side or the other. It is also possible to add film grain and vignetting.
Magic Bullet Film can be purchased for $299.
Magic Bullet Looks 3.0
The improved interface allows users to rename and organize custom looks inside without having to exit. Tools can now be pinned to the chain so that they remain there even if new looks are selected, and keyboard shortcuts have been added to lock the Looks and Tool Drawers so that they remain open.
There is a new preset library that comes with 198 completely new Looks, designed by Stu Maschwitz and based on film and TV style. In addition, 9 additional tools have been added:
- ColorSpace: to identify the type of material we are working with.
- Colorist: a 3-way color corrector with hue, saturation and luminance controls for each color, in addition to the popular curves.
- 4-Way Color: to handle shadows, mids and highlights along with a Master wheel that adjusts the entire image.
- Shadows/Highlights: for control over the brightness of shadows and highlights. It is especially useful for recovering detail in highs or adding a fill light in lows.
- Lens Vignette: adds or removes vignetting.
- Duotone: ink shadows and highlights.
- Film Negative: mimics the look of various types of film, 22 to be exact.
- Film Print: imitates the printing effect of various types of film and is recommended for use in conjunction with the Film Negative tool.
- Mojo: warms the skin tones while cooling the background.
Magic Bullet Looks 3.0 is available for $399.
Colorist III
Perhaps the most important aspect of Colorista’s revamp is that it now works on GPU and has support for Final Cut Pro X and Motion, which join Premiere and After Effects. Apart from this, its user interface has been simplified with Adobe workflow in mind.
These tools have also been added:
- Highlights
- Shadows
- Vignette
- Strength: controls the total strength of the effect.
Colorista II can be purchased for $199.
Mojo 2.0 and Cosmo 2.0
Now these two software are GPU accelerated and render in near real time.
Both are available for $99.
Denoiser II and LUT Buddy
It seems that the only ones that have not benefited from any changes are Denoiser II and LUT Buddy.
To celebrate this launch and demonstrate the capabilities of its products, Red Giant has created the short film “Old/New” and has also left us with the corresponding Making Of.
You can purchase the complete collection for $799 or upgrade from Color Suite or Magic Bullet Suite for $199. In addition, there is a special student price of $399.
