Red Giant has decided to delay their vacations a bit to complete some projects and present us with a series of new features that are part of the redesign of this company.
Official launch of BulletProof
We can finally announce the immediate availability of this software, which we have been talking about since its presentation at NAB and whose development started two years ago.
After the release of Grinder, a tool for transcoding files from DSLR cameras, the guys at Red Giant realized that they needed to go a step further and solve all the problems between camera output and editing. That’s why they decided to invent BulletProof, a system that encompasses backup, file organization, on-set color correction, playback and more extensive export options.
For the more curious, its name comes from the fact that, during a meeting organized to discuss the new software and when asked “what should it be called”, one of the attendees instantly answered “BulletProof”, as this is how he would describe what the product should be (“Bulletproof”).

BulletProof is priced at $199 and is currently only available for Mac (OS X 10.6.8 or higher). Although the Windows version is already in development (and should be ready in three or four months), due to the “Red Pledge”, which guarantees access to all operating systems at the same time, if you buy it now the Windows version will be free.
We also know that it supports material from Canon and Nikon DSLRs and GoPro cameras; and allows metadata export to Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro 7 or X through its XML options. Here you can see a specific list with all media (cameras, codecs and OS).
New Suites and products
Another thing they realized is that there were too many different names (about 50), so they have grouped their products according to their types of users and their needs.
The old and popular Magic Bullet Suite has been reorganized into the new Shooter Suite and Color Suite.
– Shooter Suite includes tools designed for material preparation and delivery:
- BulletProof
- PluralEyes
- Instant HD
- Frames
- LUT Buddy

– Color Suite focuses on the aspects of color correction and color effects:

– The Trapcode, Effects and Keying collections have not changed.
To the great satisfaction of many, Knoll Light Factory and Magic Bullet Looks now include Photoshop versions as part of the main installation.
Price reduction
Price reductions have also been made on some products. Simply by purchasing one of the Suites you save 30-40% (compared to buying the products individually). In addition, Effects Suite is down to $499 (from $899), Colorista is $199 instead of $299 and the new Suites are priced much lower than the $799 Magic Bullet Suite.
Other changes
Among other new features, they have updated the navigation and design of their website to make it easier to find products, support and tutorials. And they have modernized their product images to make them more recognizable.
They have developed from scratch Red Giant Link, a software updater that provides users with complete order history, unlimited product re-downloads, easy serial number retrieval and support history.
And finally, they have announced that they are developing “something” that they can’t talk about yet but that they assure will be amazing. They anticipate that we will have more news later this year.
