RED launches Helium and Gemini sensors for its Ranger range

RED has announced its two new Ranger Helium 8K S35 and Ranger Gemini 5K S35 dual native ISO sensors. RED’s Ranger range differs from its other cameras in that it is an all-in-one camera without modules, so we can change sensors in the same camera body.

It seems that the strategy of compact camera models has worked for the company and hence they have increased their range with these two new sensors. Although the camera body is unchanged, there is a choice of two different types of battery mount, either V-Lock or Gold Mount. The Ranger cameras incorporate a slower ventilation system with a single, larger fan to reduce noise during image recording.

The RED RANGER can record in its well-known REDCODE RAW format and can also record both Apple ProRes and Avid DNxHR files at up to 300 MB/s data transfer rates. RANGER also features RED’s own IPP2 color management system for HDR work.

As for the camera’s inputs and outputs, it has 3 SDI outputs from which we can output a duplicated image and a second different one. Power outputs of 24 and 12 V, both duplicated to cover a wide range of voltage from 11.5 to 32V.

On the audio side, it has a 5-pin XLR port for stereo audio. Of course, it has genlock, timecode and remote control connections.

One of the big differences with respect to RED MONSTRO is that these will be for sale and also available in rental houses, but MONSTRO will continue to be available for rental only.
