RED reaches 8K at 75fps

RED has released more details involving the Weapon Dragon, the latest of their cameras announced at the end of March. This time it has been during NAB, saying that they will release a sensor upgrade to 8K Full Frame, which will allow it to achieve 8K recording at 75fps.

There may be people who find this size excessive, and while 8K is not currently used as a mastering format, it would be useful for fx shots or post production reframing. On the other hand, there will always be fans of ever larger sensors who will be delighted to hear this news.

The technical specifications of the sensor are Vista Vision 400mm x 20mm (40.96mm x 21.6mm) and an exact resolution of 8192 x 4320.

Initially, the 8K sensor will only be available as a Dragon Weapon upgrade. The price for it is expected to be around $20,000 and it will be available by the end of the year.
