Rode VideoMic for Iphone

RØDE Microphoneshas finally released a version of the VideoMic Me with a wireless connection, VideoMic Me-L.

The VideoMic Me, which included a 3.5mm jack, was released a few months before the launch of the iPhone 7, the first iPhone to remove the headphone jack and provide only a wireless connection Since then, there have been many requests for a wireless version of the microphone and RØDE has finally responded to these requests with the VideoMic Me-L.

VideoMic Me-L

The VideoMic Me-L features a very similar design to the standard VideoMic Me. An aluminum frame provides rugged construction and the microphone also comes with a furry windscreen to prevent wind noise and rumble when shooting outdoors. The VideoMic Me-L features a 1/2″ condenser microphone capsule for higher quality audio. All audio is transferred digitally through the illumination port to the device. It is also a directional microphone so it will pick up more audio from the front and cancel sound from the side and back. Since the jack is reversible, the microphone is also reversible for selfie mode.

There is still a 3.5mm headphone jack on the back of the microphone so you can monitor and playback your recordings. This is nice since the microphone is using the illumination port, so you don’t have to unplug it to plug it in for playback with the built-in speakers or use a lightning bolt to a 3.5mm jack to connect headphones.

An adjustable rubber mount is also included to securely mount the microphone to the iOS device.

With the announcement of Project Rush and Adobe’s Instagram TV, mobile video is on the rise. At least with the VideoMic Me-L, we’ll have great audio to go with it. While RØDE hasn’t mentioned any other products in the range, I should think they might also create a version with a USB-C connection for those using Android devices.
