Samsung presents what it claims to be the SSD with the largest capacity in the world. This SSD reaches more than 30TB of storage. Specifically, the Samsung SSD reaches 30.72TB. In a previous time, Samsung already stood out for launching its 15.36TB drive which, at that time, was the product with the largest storage capacity in a format of about 6 centimeters. It therefore doubles that record.
Samsung SSD, the world’s largest
Samsung has chosen to name its new SSD the PM1643. It has been created from the combination of 32 of the new 1TB NAND flash packages. Each of these packages is in turn composed of 16 stacked layers of 512Gb V-NAND chips. Samsung claims that the 1TB packages allow storage of about 5700 HD movie files (5GB per drive) which is estimated to be about 500 days of continuous video.
Samsung’s SSD also features a number of improvements to live up to its capacity. Thus, the speed of the device has been tweaked. The company claims that performance levels are also roughly double the weight of its previous generation. The company has noted:
Based on a 12 Gb/s SAS interface, the new PM1643 drive offers random read and write speeds of up to 400,000 IOPS and 50,000 IOPS, and read and write speeds of up to 2,100 MB/s and 1,700 MB/s, respectively. These represent approximately four times the random read performance and three times the sequential read performance of a typical 2.5-inch SATA SSD.
Although the final price and release date are not known at this time, production of the SSDs began in January of this year. On the other hand, they plan to expand the lineup later this year. This means that we will also get 15.36TB, 7.68TB, 3.84TB, 1.92TB, 960GB and 800GB versions.
