Just a few days ago Assimilate announced that its Scratch Lab system is now able to support Sraw files from the Sony F65 camera.
This camera gives us the option to record in two different formats; one way is in RAW (Sraw) at 4K and the other is in MPEG-4SStP (native HDCAM SR format). The files in MPEG format are much easier to handle than the Sraw, because for the latter there are hardly any systems that accept it directly.
Sony offers a free software, called SDK, with which you can view and convert these files, adapting them to your needs. For example, you can obtain (starting from the Sraw) HD, for offline editing, or 4K for final postproduction.
Even so, it is good that post-production systems, such as Scratch Lab, are adapting to these formats to be able to work with them without having to go through another program first.
By announcing this, Scratch Lab has become one of the systems that supports the most native camera formats (ARRI ALEXA, RED Epic stereoscopic footage at 48 fps, Vision Research Phantom, Panasonic P2, Canon EOS C300, 5D/7D and GoPro).
At the moment it is only announced for Scratch Lab (not Scratch). On-Set Dailies also supports this format and DaVinci Resolve will support it in its next version.
