Sigma Corporation of America, a manufacturer of lenses and cinema, cameras, flash and accessories, announces that its DG MACRO Art 70mm F2.8 lens, the first prime macro lens to be adorned with the Art badge, will be available from Canon. It will mount in late May for $569.00 USD through authorized retailers in the U.S. The Sigma mount model is expected to launch in June. The release of the Sony E-Mount version will be announced at a later date.
First macro lens in the Sigma Global Vision Art line
Elevating the legendary Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG to the Art line, the brand new Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO Art prioritizes the optical performance that defines the Sigma Art line, delivering stunning resolution and incredible clarity, while at the same time offering extremely good autofocus performance for a heavier, high-performance lens.
To achieve optimum results at every shooting distance, the lens features a two-group, floating, extendable focusing mechanism that minimizes aberration at all focal lengths. In addition, the design of the lens’s optical elements increases resolution at close shooting distances, enabling a sharp, crisp focus area in contrast to a bokeh area without color streaks.
Other highlights include:
- Cable focusing system with a newly developed coreless DC motor for convenient and accurate focusing, typically required for macro photography.
- Compatibility of Canon mount lens with Canon lens aberration correction function
- Compatibility with Sigma Electronic Flash Macro EM-140 DG and Sigma Teleconverters.
