Sigma launches new full-frame mirrorless camera

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Sigma company has announced the launch of its latest full-frame mirrorless camera, the SIGMA fp. According to the company, it is the smallest camera of its kind in the world so far, weighing only 420 grams including battery. Notably, the camera is capable of recording internally at 4K with 12-bit color depth.

The SIGMA fp’s sensor is a back-illuminated 35mm Full Frame Bayer sensor with 24.6 effective megapixels. Taking into account the problems that mirrorless cameras often have, especially full-frame cameras, SIGMA has designed the camera with this in mind. To this end, it has created a camera body that protects the sensor with 24 sealing points to protect it from dust and splashes. At the same time, the sensor is coated with aluminum alloy on both the front and rear for a more robust structure.

The SIGMA fp has no mechanical shutter, potentially reducing noise and increasing reliability even in burst shooting at 18 frames per second. As for the lens mount, the SIGMA fp is L-mount and this makes it compatible with SIGMA, Leica and Panasonic lenses.

The company is jumping on the 4K bandwagon and we will be able to record uncompressed RAW video in CinemaDNG format at 12bits and 24 frames per second with an external recorder. Video output to the external recorder is via USB 3.1 (GEN1). It also allows recording in H264 ALL-I for better editing performance.

It is the first SIGMA brand camera to include tone curve adjustment. We can also access the tone and color menus via quick-access buttons. In addition to these manual settings, SIGMA fp includes in-camera presets such as the famous Teal&Orange.

Details of the SIGMA fp are now available on the company’s website, although the camera will not reach the market until fall 2019.
