Sigma has just announced three new lenses for mirrorless cameras that will be part of the new I-line of its Contemporary range. These 3 new lenses are the 24mm f3.5 DG DN Contemporary, 35mm f2 DG DN Contemporary y 65mm f2 DG DN Contemporary. All 3 are available for Sony E and L mounts. In addition to these 3 lenses, the existing 45mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary is added to the I series.
This line responds to the need to reduce the size of some of Sigma’s lenses, which is why its new design is one of the most notable aspects of this line. Metal is the element of choice for the new Sigma Contemporary I-series lenses, with metal construction on both the exterior and interior. This offers a more robust and durable design and features high-precision components engineered with state-of-the-art in-house metallurgical technology. They are also composed of aluminum parts for durability.
The new 24mm f3.5 DG DN Contemporary, very similar to the existing 45mm f2.8 DG DN Contemporary, has a minimum focusing distance of 10.8cm and is designed with ten elements in eight optical groups where we can find three aspherical and one SLD lens. The diaphragm is composed of seven blades and is a wide-angle capable of capturing fine details and creating “beautiful bokeh”.
The 35mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary is a classic lens with which they want to reinvent the standards for mirrorless cameras. It has a maximum aperture F2 and in this case the ten elements that compose it are distributed in 9 groups, also with 3 aspherical and one SLD. Its size makes it a very practical lens to take anywhere without compromising its optical performance and thanks to its wide aperture it is a good choice for capturing night images.
The third lens of line I is the 65 mm F2 DG DN | Contemporary, with higher optical performance than its peers. This lens allows capturing very sharp details without chromatic aberration thanks to the SLD lens. Aspherical aberration is also corrected thanks to the 2 aspherical lenses that compose it. Overall it has twelve elements distributed in new groups. It has a minimum focusing distance of 55cm. The anti-ghosting and anti-flare technology makes its performance in backlit conditions that of a high-end lens.
All 3 lenses share a manual aperture ring and their focusing design features a stepless motor and is compatible with high-speed autofocus. To this new line, Sigma does not rule out adding new lenses in the Sports and Art ranges.
There is still no exact launch date, although it is expected to be early 2021, and what we do know is that they will be priced at 539€, 619€ and 699€ for the 24mm f3.5 DG DN Contemporary, 35mm f2 DG DN Contemporary and 65mm f2 DG DN Contemporary respectively.
