This Sigma lens has been designed for specific frame sensors. Based on the data provided by the manufacturer, it appears to have some certainly interesting characteristics. In addition to the usual claims of minimal chromatic aberration, Sigma claims that the new lens has 1% or less distortion throughout the zoom range at infinity focus.
For one thing, it supports Canon lens aberration correction functionality, further enhancing performance. Waterproofing features are rigorous, not only at the interface with the camera, but also within the zoom and focus. A water- and oil-repellent coating on the front element of the lens demonstrates that this is a piece of glass designed for use in a variety of extreme conditions.
The Front Conversion Service will be available in addition. This will mean users will have the ability to convert the front hood into a purely round component. However, Sigma that claims it will minimize the chances of the lens appearing in multi-camera VR shots, given the extremely wide field of view it is capable of.
On the other hand, the new lens will also be a good alternative for video uses in addition to its popular use for still photo creation.
