Sonnet to release its Qio models with Thunderbolt

Sonnet Technologies has announced its new Thunderbolt interface, which will be available as an option on three of its Qio models.

The Qio, Qio CF4 and Qio E3 media readers will now have this capability, allowing users to use this high-speed connection with any Mac computer equipped with a Thunderbolt port(iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro).

The original Qio was the first device capable of supporting all major HD video memory card formats in a compact, high-performance model. It reads at high speed virtually any card, including SxS, P2, CompactFlash, SDHC and SDXC.

On the other hand, the Qio CF4 is a CompactFlash reader equipped with four slots; and the Qio E3 reads SxS cards in three slots.

All of them allow simultaneous file ingestion from all slots, thus increasing efficiency and waiting times. In addition, they have locking mechanisms at both ends.

They include a PCIe cable that connects the reader to the Thunderbolt interface. A Thunderbolt cable also included allows the interface to be connected to the computer or to the end of a chain of Thunderbolt devices.

The new interface is expected to be released at the end of March, leaving the new models with the following pricing:

  • Qio with Thunderbolt (QIO-TB) → $1,099
  • Qio CF4 with Thunderbolt (QIO-CF4-TB) → $699
  • Qio E3 with Thunderbolt (QIO-E3-TB) → $699

For those who already own one of these three Qio, Sonnet is offering the Qio Thunderbolt Interface Kit (QTB-IFK), priced at $399. And thanks to the introduction of the new interface, these models with PCIe or ExpressCard will be discounted by $100.
