Sony this week announced plans for the next generation of its CineAlta range.
At the moment we do not know the specific launch date of the new cameras, but they are expected to arrive in early 2018. What we can tell you are some details given by the company itself about the sensor, workflow and accessories.
The new technology incorporates a 36x24mm Full Frame sensor, designed specifically for digital cinema cameras and without relying on any aspect ratio. This means it will be compatible with Full Frame, as well as anamorphic Super 35 4K 4-perf 4:3 and spherical 4K 3-perf 17:9.
As for the workflow, it remains the same as that established with other Sony cameras, with RAW/X-OCN and 16-bit XAVC.
For those of you who already have some accessories, you will be happy to know that it will be possible to use the DVF-EL200 Full HD OLED viewfinder, the AXS-R7 recorder, the AXS-CR1 and AR1reader and theSxS memory cards.
