After four months of long waiting, the Sony PMW-F5 and PMW-F55 cameras are here. Sony has just announced that it has begun distribution of these two CineAlta 4K cameras, in addition to its new 4K monitor, the PVM-X300.
Sony F5 and F55
At the end of last October Sony introduced the F5 and F55, two cameras with a modular design and a Super 35mm 4K sensor that fill the gap between the F3 and F65 models. Their main differences lie in the F55’s ability to capture 4K images without the need for an external recorder and in the fact that they use different color spaces (the F5’s is smaller).
The Sony F5 is priced at $19,400 and the F55 at $34,900.

PVM-X300 Monitor
On the other hand, Sony has also released the new PVM-X300 monitor, with a 30-inch LCD screen and 4096 x 2160 resolution.
Apart from incorporating Sony’s TRIMASTER technology architecture, which offers excellent levels of color reproduction, one of its main advantages is that it can be connected to the F55, via four 3G-SDI, for monitoring 4K images and up to 60p.
Accessories
In addition, Sony’s two new cameras have a full line of accessories, such as the AXS-R5 RAW recorder, which attaches directly; SxS PRO and AXSM cards; new viewfinders, batteries, chargers and mounts; or a complete set of lenses.
Its PL mount allows the use of optics from manufacturers such as Angénieux, Canon, Carl Zeiss, Cooke, FUJIFILM, Leica or ARRI, which in fact recently (ARRI) added some products for the F5 and F55 to its line of accessories which you can read about here.
Sony for its part also released a set of PL-mount fixed lenses certified for 4K capture. The complete kit includes focal lengths of 20, 25, 35, 50, 50, 85 and 135mm.
And if you want to work with any other lens you can always dismount the PL mount and access the original FX mount, which can be used with different adapters.
Here you can see the price of some of these accessories.
