Sony updates its FS5 camera

Sony got a day ahead of the Epiphany gifts and on the 5th brought its users a firmware update for the FS5 camera.

Version 1.1 comes with one of the most important recording feature promises: simultaneous UHD (3840 x 2160) capture internally and externally.

Already in version 1.0 a compensation was offered in order to avoid native processor problems, thanks to which it was possible to use the internal memory or an external recorder, but never at the same time. The problem was also that trigger, timecode and digital signals could not be sent via HDMI.

These drawbacks have now been corrected, allowing the recording of two identical UHD signals in camera and on an external device at the same time. A new menu called “QFHD REC OUTPUT” has also been added to switch between simultaneous internal and external recording.

However, you will find a small disadvantage. When switching between these modes you will not be able to use the OLED viewfinder or the camera’s LCD monitor at the same time (only in UHD operation, it will not affect this if you work in HD).

This version also adds support for face detection and real 4K is planned for future updates.

The FS5 or FS7 cameras will be some of those present in the Introduction to Digital Cinematography course. If you are a bit lost in this subject and want to expand your knowledge, I recommend you to take a look at this link to all the contents.
