Sony’s new FE C 16-35mm T3.1G cine lens FE C 16-35mm T3.1G

Sony has launched a new cine lens, the Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1G. Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1G full-frame cine lens that offers advanced intelligent recording features. This lens was announced in conjunction with the new camera FX6 E-mount, full-frame camera with various autofocus options. In fact the new Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1G comes with autofocus capability.

Sony presents it as a lens for those who want to create audiovisual content, the lens is not even impediment and can enjoy new artistic possibilities. This is the first in a series of 3 optical cinema lenses to be launched by Sony. The lens composition has two XA lens elements, extreme aspherical and 3 other aspherical elements responsible for reducing distortion, curvature and astigmatism and to them we must add 2 other elements of extra low dispersion, which are responsible for avoiding chromatic distortion. Continuing with improvements to avoid flare and ghosting, this time Sony has added anti-reflective nano-coating. The diaphragm is composed of 11 blades of SELC1635G that makes the lens bokeh smooth. Another feature of the Sony FE C 16-35mm T3.1G is the continuous aperture of T3.1, the equivalent of an f2.8. This aspect also allows for shallow depth of field to help create that smooth bokeh.

We’ve talked about the autofocus, but it’s worth noting that it’s a hybrid system with enhanced phase/contrast detection that manages to keep the subject in focus even in shallow depth of field. It also features a linear-response manual focus that makes the lens non-breathing and fluid. The focus ring is designed with 120 degrees of rotation and allows for precise focus control. The ring offers the option of reversible rotation to customize and vary between autofocus or manual focus.

The diameter measurements are standard, 114mm to be compatible with other ranges of accessories on the market.
