Sorenson Squeeze 8.5

Sorenson Media has announced the new version of its file encoding and compression software: Sorenson Squeeze 8.5. This update has worked to achieve a significant increase in speed, as well as expanding format support and adding new features.

The increase in speed has been achieved by using parallel processing in certain steps (instead of sequential); that is, several processes are performed at the same time (carried out by microprocessors) improving the overall system performance, instead of doing one task after another.

The system has been optimized for a single output, in formats such as MP4, QuickTime, WebM or Matroska (MKV).

Sorenson Media has collaborated with Intel to optimize Squeeze thanks to the “Intel Quick Sync” synchronization platform, including second and third generation Intel (Sandy and Ivy Bridge).

Full control of the CPU has also been achieved, allowing through an intuitive scroll bar the percentage of resources that the system will dedicate to a given encoding, and can even reach 100%.

Thanks to all these improvements, the encoding speed of Squeeze 8.5 can be up to 200% faster.

One of the new features of this version is the possibility to control the timecode. Now you can change the timecode information to any file, as well as add marks or cut on a specific frame by indicating it manually.

Support has been added for output formats (MPEG DASH in MP4, with H.264 and AAC), and input formats (JPEG2000, MJ2, MP4 and MXF at any resolution). Integration with x264 has also been improved and optimized for H.264 encoding.
Finally, Squeeze now supports 64-bit.

Another factor that the company has emphasized is the boost in productivity through Sorenson 360. For the first time, seamless integration has been achieved with this online video platform, through which users can encode their files and upload them to “the cloud” for storage and distribution directly without leaving Squeeze.
Its interface has been improved and a sophisticated new text editor has been added. In addition, content already stored on the online platform will be easier to submit for review and approval, without the need for re-coding. This eliminates unnecessary steps and saves time in processes such as “burning” a DVD or making submissions.
Version 8 users will receive 5 GB of free storage on Sorenson 360.

Sorenson Squeeze 8.5 and 8.5 Pro are now available for $799 and $999 respectively. The difference between the two is that the Pro version can encode in DNxHD and ProRes and supports Dolby AC3 and BIAS SoundSoap.
