Sorenson Squeeze 9

Sorenson Media has introduced Sorenson Squeeze 9, an update to its popular file encoding system that brings a number of new features and a slight change to the interface.

These are the new features:

Interface

The Sorenson Squeeze interface has been subtly revamped to give it a modernized feel while keeping the overall usability of the application familiar to the user.

Among the general design improvements we can find a new color palette and simplified iconography. In addition, thanks to the version 9 interface it will be easier to search through presets, filters, publishing options and notifications.

In the main window, next to the progress bar that already appeared in previous versions, you will see a compression status that provides more accurate information and options such as “skip”.

Improved workflows

The entire publishing workflow has been improved, allowing the ability to view content before publishing and change settings after coding (for re-publishing).

Also the “Batch Window Cleanup”, as there will now be more space on the screen for batch/watch folders and simplified navigation.

In the video preview window there will be intuitive task areas for viewing and editing the source content.

In addition, with this release there is an updated plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro (CS6), which provides encoding within this editing system, joining the existing plug-ins from Avid, Apple, and Sony.

HTML5 coding

HTML5-optimized encoding will be very beneficial for those working with video on any web host.

Multiple format support

In Sorenson Squeeze 9 we will still find support for a lot of codecs and formats. Among them we can still find some like Windows Media (wmvs), which are still needed from time to time.

Pre-rolls and Post-rolls

Thanks to this new possibility we will be able to add pre/post rolls to our encodings. This function is intended to start or end with another video clip, linked to the one we are encoding.

Timecode filter fixed

This filter now works with the original source timing code, which although it existed previously, had never worked as expected.

More options for DNxHD

The DNxHD codec settings have been updated to provide the missing options. Although the ability to encode in DNxHD was already available a few versions ago, the settings that appeared were not the same as in Avid, so in version 9 they have been added.

Subtitle support

Finally, support for EIA-608 and CEA-708 closed captioning has been added, as well as the corresponding TTML output.

The standard version of Sorenson Squeeze 9 is now available for $799 from this page. Squeeze Pro 9, required if you want to encode in ProRes or DNxHD, is priced at $999.
