Stereo3D Toolbox 4.0

Dashwood 3D Cinema Solutions has released version 4.0 of Stereo3D Toolbox, which will now be available in Final Cut Pro X and brings a new user interface configuration.

Stereo3D Toolbox is an advanced s3D postproduction tool, available as a plugin through FxFactory. As always, for it to work you need to have the latest version (from FxFactory), which in this case is 3.0.4 and can be downloaded from here.

It includes the necessary set of tools to be able to work in s3D in FCP X, as well as in other systems. There are multiple visualization modes and modes in which we have several parameters to perfect our material in several steps.

These modes are: Geometry, Image Balance and Z-Depth. In Geometry you can make adjustments concerning convergence point, distortions, focus, reframing, etc. Image Balance corrects for changes in color and exposure between the two eyes. In addition, these changes can be made with the help of scopes. Z-Depth affects changes related to the depth of the different elements that make up the image.

Here you have a tutorial that explains practically all the parameters and tools that can be used in Stereo3D Toolbox. Step by step they show us how to synchronize the left and right eye clips and apply the plugin to start working in s3D. Practically the whole tutorial is done in Final Cut Pro X, but in this first part we can also see the demo in Final Cut 7, Motion and After Effects.

It is quite complete, since it makes an in-depth tour of the different options, explaining a series of fairly intuitive controls (as long as you have some basic notions of s3D).

In addition to this plugin, there is also Stereo3D Toolbox LE 4.0, for basic s3D post-production.

In this short tutorial, you can appreciate that the amount of tools and controls are very reduced, so the possibilities to adjust and correct the clips are much smaller. Even so, this video can be very useful for those who want to start getting a base on s3D, as it explains in a simple and brief way the differences between the display modes that can be chosen in “3D Output Mode”, such as Side by Side, anaglyph or 50/50 Superimpose.

Stereo3D Toolbox is compatible with:

– Final Cut Pro: 6, 7 and X.
– Motion: 3, 4 and 5.
– After Effects: CS3, CS4, CS5, CS5.5 and CS6.

Version 4.0 is a free upgrade for those who already have it. If not, Stereo3D Toolbox can be purchased for $1,499 and Stereo3D Toolbox LE for only $99. From this page you can download the trial version or purchase either one.
