Tangent Ripple: a $350 controller

Tangent, the developer of such well-known controllers as Wave or Element, has just announced its new Ripple, which will enter the market in 2016 and probably stepping strong given its low cost.

This controller has been designed for those who are new to color correction, editors, students or occasional colorists, and that is why the price has been set with the intention of being totally affordable: $350.

This amount is much lower than that of its Wave ($1,515) or Element ($1,153) peers, not to mention comparisons with other larger controllers such as DaVinci Resolve ($30,000).

The design of Tangent Ripple is very simple, with three trackerballs with dials and corresponding independent presets. With these essential features, color correction work is greatly accelerated, especially in the primary settings.

Like all other Tangent controllers, it comes with the Mapper software to customize the controls (the A and B buttons are programmable) on all compatible systems, which at the moment are all those using Tangent Hub, such as Resolve, Nucoda, Scratch, Speedgrade and others.

It is USB-operated and small enough to be placed next to the keyboard and mouse without being in the way when not in use. In addition, its functionality can be expanded by using it in conjunction with other Element panels, including the element-Vs app.

The first Tangent Ripple prototypes will be on display at the IBC exhibitions.
