Day 1 saw the official launch of ACES 1.0, designed to preserve color decisions throughout a production run.
For those of you who are not yet familiar with this term, ACES stands for “Academy Color Encoding System” and in this post you have some more info about its beginnings.
The “ACES Logo Program” has also been introduced as a method of supporting this system in the industry, from cameras to color correction. Major companies have already started to join this program and are now participating:
- ARRI
- Assimilate
- Autodesk
- Canon U.S.A.
- Codex
- Colorfront
- Deluxe Media Creative Services
- Digital Vision
- Dolby Laboratories
- FilmLight
- FotoKem
- The Foundry
- Fujifilm North America
- Light Illusion
- MTI Film
- Panasonic
- Pomfort
- Quantel
- Digital Cinema Network
- SGO
- Shotgun Digital
- Sony Electronics
So far there are few productions that have been made following this workflow (such as Oblivion or Big Eyes), but let’s hope that from now on this system will start to be established and we will have that consistency in color. During NAB there will be a launch party (at booth C9132) and presentations on April 11 and 14.
