The first Canon Video Grant offering a prize of 8000€.

Canon is back for the first time, but this time to present its first Canon Video Grant – Short Film Documentary where a prize of €8000 is up for grabs for whoever captures the best images. Images Evidence is also participating in this worldwide contest.

In recent years we have seen how the DSLR format has changed from being simply still cameras to become professional video cameras and how people have been adapting to this change. More and more people from the world of photography are moving to the world of video and vice versa, and Canon offers tools, such as the new Canon EOS R5, to help them make the transition. Canon EOS R5to make this transition easy and natural. Therefore, in addition to the cash prize, Canon is offering a video kit and a pair of cinema lenses so that whoever wins can record a documentary of about 8 minutes in length.

The contest is open to those who meet a couple of very basic requirements: be a professional photojournalist or in the case of video, be an audiovisual producer with at least one previous report. It is open to individuals, not as a working group, regardless of nationality, as it is open to anyone who can speak or write in English or French. What kind of work can be submitted? Those whose central plot revolves around a social, political, cultural or economic theme.

If you think you meet all these requirements and have an idea that you want to share with the world, sign up for the first edition of the Canon Video Grant. Registration is free and you have until April 15, 2020 to apply. In spring 2020, Canon will announce the winner of the first prize. The jury, as it could not be otherwise, will be composed of professionals from the world of photography and video. The criteria for voting will be based on previous work, the consistency of your work, the journalistic value of the proposed topic and the subject matter.

Following the decision of the winner , part of the documentary will be screened during the Visa pour l’Image 2020, and the official screening will take place at the 2021 ceremony.
