During NAB, the company The Foundry presented a plugin called Cara VR for Nuke, aimed at working with virtual reality and accelerated by GPU.

Cara VR features tools that combine camera troubleshooting, automatic exposure and balance corrections, compositing and review within the Nuke workspace.

It supports mono and stereo material, and uses Ocula technology (from The Foundry) to seamlessly stitch moving images together. In addition to GPU acceleration, the “Spherical Transform” node makes it easy to work with different types of projection.

The tracker has been optimized to take into account distortion and edge continuity issues that commonly arise when recording in 360 degrees.

Some presets for cameras such as the Freedom360 mount from GoPro or Nokia OZO have been included. It is also possible to manually define camera rigs with Python scripts.

HTC and Oculus headsets can be used to visualize the projects directly from the timeline (only in the Nuke Studio version).

Cara VR is now available and has a starting price of $4,295. Since it is not a very cheap plugin, you can test its features and evaluate it beforehand with the 15-day trial version, available for Nuke, NukeX and Nuke Studio (10.0v2 or 9.0v7 or higher versions). Please note that it does not work on Nuke Non-commercial.

In the following videos you can see the experience gained by MediaMonks and New Deal Studios, some of the first users of the plugin.
