Sony introduces its new SF-G series UHS-II SD cards claiming that they are “the fastest in the world”. According to the company, they have write speeds of up to 299 MB/s and feature custom firmware that enables faster-than-ever storage.
If we compare them with SanDisk’s Extreme Pro SD UHS-II card, renowned for its speed, we will see that this one falls behind, reaching 260MB/s write. However, the read speeds are similar, up to 300MB/s.
The new cards appear to have performed very well in still and burst shooting, but it is still not too clear how they will perform when it comes to video. The new cards carry the U3 rating, which indicates a minimum sustained write speed of 30MB/s.
Sony’s new SDs are expected to hit the market this spring in 32GB, 64GB and 128GB formats.
