Appleupdated its desktop line yesterday with new features such as upscaling its displays to 4K and 5K resolutions.
New screens
Each 27-inch model will now feature a 5K (5120×2880) display and will be capable of carrying two 4096×2160 signals to external monitors or a single 5120×2880 signal (via a dual connection and in conjunction with the native 5K display).
A 4K (4096×2304) option is available for 21.5-inch models.
In addition, the displays have been updated to cover a wider color range. According to Apple, the new ones are based on the P3 color space instead of the sRGB of previous generations.
Possible configurations
The 27-inch iMac can reach up to 4.2GHz (up from 4.0GHz) with its quad-core Intel Core i7 processor and Turbo Boost capabilities. RAM is up to 32GB and storage can be up to 3TB Fusion Drive (a hybrid SSD/HDD storage option from Apple) or 1TB of flash storage.
Graphics and connections
As for the graphics part again the company has relied on AMD, as the 27-inch iMac will feature a Radeon R9 M395X with up to 4GB of GDDR5 memory.
On the back we will find four USB 3.0 ports, two Thunderbolt 2, a Gigabit Ethernet and an SDXC card slot.
The price of a 27-inch iMac with all capacities and 1TB of storage is $4,099.
