The new Premista 19-45mm T2.9 large-format zoom lens

Fujifilm has introduced its new Premista 19-45mm T2.9. This is a new zoom lens for large format cameras. With this new addition, there are now 3 zoom lenses that make up the Premista family launched in 2019.

Like the rest of the lenses that make up the Premista series, the new 19-45mm T2.9 is designed for cameras with a large format sensor. It stays true to the design of the line and is capable of producing images with that natural bokeh style that the Premista series has become accustomed to and that has made it a very personal trademark.

They are also characterized by the color accuracy maintained by the optics, being very faithful to reality. The ghosting effect in these lenses is practically null, which allows us to have a greater dynamic range when capturing images. In zoom lenses, distortions often appear along the focal length, but not in the 19-45mm T2.9. As we saw with the other two lenses in the Premista zoom series (28-100mm T2.9 and 80-250mm T2.9-3.5), distortion in the zoom range is minimal.

Since their launch, Premista lenses have been present on many film shoots due to the great reception and demand in the industry, and even more so now that due to the new situation zoom lenses are becoming more and more necessary. As Thomas Fletcher, Marketing Director at FUJIFILM said, “Now, with more stringent needs for safety and efficiency on set, there is a growing demand for high quality zoom lenses that match the quality and look of fixed lenses.” With zoom lenses that give results similar to what a fixed lens would give, changing lenses on set is avoided.

The idea of this optic is to help and speed up the work in shootings where you work with smaller rigs or where it is not so easy to be constantly changing optics, such as steadycam, gimbal, camera car…

For the time being we will have to wait until early 2021 to see Fujinon’s new Premista 19-45 T2.9.
