The new Sony ZV-1, designed for video bloggers

Sony launches a new camera for a very specific audience, video bloggers. The Sony ZV-1 has a design and a series of features expressly requested by this type of users who demand image quality, portability and simplicity.

For the Sony ZV-1 they have employed a 1″ CMOS sensor with DRAM chip and as for the lens it is a Zeiss Vario-Sonnar 24-70mm zoom focal length and an f1.8/2.8 aperture and is a fixed lens. For this type of content and content creation autofocus is vital, so Sony has incorporated its BIOZ X image processor and advanced autofocus technology into the ZV-1.

As for video capabilities, the ZV-1 is capable of recording 4K video with the XAVC S codec and full pixel readout without pixel binning. It can also record at a high bit rate, for which we will need SDHC / SDXC UHS-I (U3) cards. It comes with the option to record super slow motion at 1000 frames per second. The curves included are Hybrid Log Gamma, S-Gamut3.Cine / S-Log3 and S-Gamut3 / S-Log3 and to achieve natural colors they have employed advanced color science that works especially well on all skin tones.

The bokeh effect generated by the ZV-1 is remarkable as it emphasizes that professional touch that makes it stand out from other cameras of this type. The focus is on people’s faces, especially in selfie mode, but two types of background blur are achieved. The user can choose through a menu which type of blur he wants to use by simply pressing a button on the top of the camera. Product Showcase mode allows focus changes with smooth transitions between the subject and the background or other object.

The camera features a vari-angle touch screen that can be extended laterally so that users can see what they are recording when in selfie mode.

The ZV-1 will arrive in Europe this June and will be priced at approximately 700 to 800 euros.
