Blackmagic has already released the new DaVinci Resolve update, version 16.2.3, which as a great novelty, in addition to fixing some bugs, includes the decoding of Canon R5 files using Apple Metal. Although the Canon R5 is not yet on the market, it seems that Blackmagic has been working hard to provide service to future users who will work with it. Not only the Canon R5 benefits from this update, the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, RED Komodo and ARRIRAW also have increased support.
Another big new feature in DaVinci Resolve 16.2.3 has to do with Dolby Vision is support for Dolby Vision CM version 4.1. If you are working with version 4 it allows you to export Dolby Vision XML for the previous 2.9 version and generate another 2.9 version of the same project.
The ACES workflow has also been updated with improved rendering of ARRI mxf files in ACES, improving IDT and color management for more accurate results. With respect to ARRIRAW, Blackmagic has also improved the playback performance of ARRIRAW clips for smoother workflows.
The Fairlight page has also undergone some improvements that fix bugs from the previous version. Thus, display errors in the Fairlight index are eliminated, layers can now be cloned without error when editing them and the audio ripple when in clipping mode has also been improved.
The list of new features and small improvements is not as extensive as in previous occasions, which includes fixes on the Fusion page as well, but it features important new implementations such as support for RED SDK 7.3.2, which improves GPU performance when working with files coming from RED Komodo and R5.
