The house of Canon announces the trio of new lightweight camera designs, prepared for optimal price-performance results in field acquisition. Their dimensions are approx. 131 x 180 x 231 mm and with an estimated weight of 750 grams (camera only). All three models share the same basic features, such as HD CMOS sensor, DIGIC DV4 image processor and, most notably, 20x optical zoom lens (35 mm equivalent of 26.8-576 mm).
In addition, all models include 5-axis image stabilization in dynamic mode and are equipped with HDMI, headphone jack and the possibility of connecting GPS.
The panoramic DR mode compresses bright areas of the image in order to suppress overexposure in adverse conditions. It also includes a slow/fast function that offers different shutter speeds ranging from 0.4x to 1200x.
These new cameras can record at up to 50 frames per second at 35Mbps in dual SD card slots and can record in both AVHD and MP4 formats. Dual format recording, dual slot recording (simultaneous) and Relay Recording (uninterrupted recording) are available.
Where to choose
There are three models that differ in terms of range. First we find the Vixia HF G21 which is the basic model. Then we find the XA11 model, which adds a handle and XLR audio terminals. The third model and the most developed of all is the XA15, which marks the difference with respect to its two little sisters by presenting an HD-SDI output.
These cameras will be available later this month. While you wait, you can make the most of your time with good training.
