THX tune-up: Calibration from your cell phone

THX tune-up is an application for mobile devices that allows (non-professional) calibration of TV screens and loudspeakers in a simple and interactive way.

It connects to the Smartphone or Tablet via HDMI cable or wirelessly with Apple TV if we are using an iPad or iPhone.

To start the calibration simply find the TV tuning buttons on the remote control and follow the step-by-step tutorials provided. In addition, THX tune-up comes with tips on room lighting, viewing distance, etc.

Using a series of carefully selected photographs as test patterns, you will be able to correctly set the aspect ratio, brightness, contrast, color and tint of the image.

In the case of sound, THX tune-up checks the output of the speakers to ensure that they are in phase and connected properly for two channels if stereo or six if a 5.1 surround system.

*5.1 audio tests can only be performed if you have connected the device via HDMI.

This application is compatible with Android devices running OS 4.2.2, iPad 2 and iPhone 4S (or later models), although it is optimized for iPhone 5. Here you can see the complete list of supported products.

Until February 3rd you will be able to download THX tune-up for free from Google Play for Android or from the App Store for iOS. After this date the application will be priced at $1.99.

Don’t forget that in July we will have a course on calibration and color management for digital video, where you can learn how to use the current professional tools.
