Following the launch of new lenses new lenses this weektoday it’s the turn of Tokina, which has unveiled its new Prime 40mm T1.5 cine prime lens.
The reason for this launch is apparently due to the high demand for this focal length from users, who were clamoring for a lens with a more versatile angle. Being a lens for full-frame sensors, the angle of view it offers is even wider than that of the 50mm and 35mm basic focal lengths.
Tokina’s Vista Prime lenses are high-end lenses designed for full frame cameras and can even work in 8K. Made of metal, they are robust lenses but offer in return greater durability and are fast with virtually no breathing. The list of the Vista Prime range is extensive, with focal lengths of 18mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 105mm, 135mm, and now the new 40mm, all with T1.5.
As for the design of the Tokina 40mm T1.5, it maintains the line of the rest of the range and is composed of a 9-blade diaphragm that makes the bokeh it creates natural with round reflections in defocus. It has 300º of rotation at the closest focus path to infinity. Focusing, manual, can be operated with focus rings that include markings on both sides of the lens so you can operate it from any position and always have the reference in sight.
It has a definition area of 46.7mm, which means it can be used in large format cameras such as Arri ALEXA LF Mini 4.5K or RED monster, for example.
For added versatility, it is available with PL, EF, MTF, Sony E and LPL interchangeable mount options.
The high-end Vista Prime Tokina 40mm T1.5 Vista Prime lens will go on sale for $7,499.
