New Blackmagic Camera 7.2 and Nikon 3.2 updates. Blackmagic releases the new firmware update which allows the Blackmagic URSA Mini PRO 12K to record for longer periods using 2.5-inch SATA SSD or U.2 NVMe drives. Meanwhile, Nikon releases a new update for the Z7 and Z6 mirrorless cameras to record Blackmagic RAW with Blackmagic Video Assist 12G.
The Blackmagic Camera 7.2 update offers compatibility for Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K with the Blackmagic URSA Mini Recorder, allowing direct control from the camera. It can be connected via USB Type-C to the back of the camera for longer recordings. This not only increases footage length but also quality, enabling constant speed recording in 4K. Color performance is also improved with this new update in video and extended video modes. It also achieves color interpolation that offers more definition in details.
For EF lenses, autofocus recording has been improved with visual assistance, and for CN-E and Cabrio lenses, it provides support in contact with the camera for lens data reading. This update fixes bugs such as the 100% zebra indicator and adds overall improvements to camera performance.
Nikon has released the new update affecting the Z7 and Z6 mirrorless cameras. With this new firmware, they can now record in Blackmagic RAW format through an external Blackmagic Video Assist 12G recorder. It allows recording at 12-bit in 4K UHD and Full HD formats. It can be connected to the camera via HDMI to access RAW options.
This update is completely free for Nikon Z7 and Z6 owners. There is a campaign planned for February 2021 to obtain a free update for Nikon Z 6II and Z7 II that already had active RAW video updates.
