Last Thursday Avid updated its video editing systems, releasing version 6.5.0.1 for Media Composer and Symphony; and 10.5.0.1 for NewsCutter news editing software.
The main new features affect the Sony plugins, which have also been updated. Support for the new Sony XDCAM AMA version 2.1 is now included. This plugin provides support for XDCAM and XDCAM EX files in the three Avid software, allowing native viewing and editing. You can download it from here.
In addition, support for Mac OS X 10.8, Mountain Lion, and editing with Sony XDCAM Station in any of its three models (XDS-PD2000; XDS-PD1000; XDS-1000) has also been added in this version 2.1. The workstation (XDS Series) allows a hybrid workflow, functioning as a recorder or server and combining work with Professional Disc (optical disc recording format introduced by Sony a few years ago) and SxS cards. It also has a large internal storage capacity (HDD or SSD). Here you can see all its features and specifications.
In the Avid 6.5.0.1 (or 10.5.0.1) update, support for the updated version of the Sony SR SStp (HDCAM SR) plug-in has also been added. You can download this plug-in from this link.
And finally, it will no longer be necessary to uninstall P2 and XDCAM before importing them. More information on these three software packages can be found on their pages (ReadMe): Media Composer 6.5; Symphony 6.5; NewsCutter 10.5.
These updates are now available at no cost to users with Media Composer and Symphony version 6.5, or NewsCutter version 10.5. They can be downloaded from the Avid Download Center, with a login and password, or from an Avid account via theActivation Card.
