The NAB Show took place from April 7 to 12 in Las Vegas, USA. Luis Ochoa, from 709 Media Room, attended the convention and has been able to bring us the news that were presented there. Among them we can find
Atomos + Prores Raw
Atomos announces support for ProRes RAW, a new format from Apple that combines the performance of ProRes with the flexibility of RAW. The update will be available free of charge for the Atomos Shogun Inferno and Sumo 19. It allows all Atomos Shogun Inferno and Sumo 19 users to record, monitor, playback and add ProRes RAW and ProRes RAW HQ tags. Once installed, it enables the capture of RAW images up to 12bit RGB – directly from the most advanced cameras to SSD drives. ProRes RAW files can be imported directly into Final Cut Pro 10.4.1 for high-performance editing and color adjustment.
New HP monitor
The HP DreamColor Z31x Studio display is a 31″ diagonal display with 10-bit IPS panel with over a billion colors. HP has worked to ensure that color reproduction, even in blacks, stands up to scrutiny when the viewer is off-axis. It promises deep blacks, minimal black lift and rich shadow detail. The display itself is not UHD 4k, but “Cinema 4k,” the 4096×2160 resolution at which movies are mastered for theatrical release and is therefore 17: 9 rather than 16: 9.
What’s new at Baselight
FilmLight launches BLG for Flame as the latest product in the popular Baselight Editions series. BLG for Flame is a Linux-only plugin for Autodesk Flame that applies a Baselight grade automatically, either from Baselight Linked Grade (BLG) files or directly from a Baselight scene. In its initial implementation for Flame 2018, grades can be exported as BLG files to a directory, where BLG for Flame will match shots based on timecode and automatically apply the grade.
