We continue with more releases and news about HDR monitors. As we discussed in our previous article on HDR news, the industry is increasingly interested in serving users working in HDR and that is why more and more brands are launching HDR-compatible monitors.
We continue with a very important brand in the world of monitors, EIZO. It presents its CG3145 ColorEdge Prominence monitor, a reference monitor perfect for color grading HDR material and to complement HDR workflows. EIZO has managed to eliminate one of the most serious problems we encounter when working with some monitors by removing the automatic brightness limiter (ABL). By removing the ABL, we ensure that the brightness is always correct and we do not get dimmed and dull brightness areas and halos.
The CG1345 Color Edge Prominence is Dolby Vision certified and supports HLG and PQ gamma curve. It has a maximum luminance of 1000 nits and a contrast of 1,000,000:1. The resolution of the monitor is 4096 x 2160, the DCI-4K standard for working in post production, VFX, and editing. We can adjust the brightness level we want for each project, the white point or curve with the Color Navigator NX software. It comes with 10-bit HDMI and DisplayPort ports at 4:2:2 and 4:4:4:4 respectively.
For the first time, an artificial intelligence system and a temperature control system that regulates the temperature of the monitor according to the ambient temperature so that the brightness does not affect it and the reproduction is even more accurate have been integrated for the first time in this monitor.
We move on to the Blackmagic Design brand, which among other releases apart from the new Pocket Cinema 6K, has also launched a new HDR monitor. This is the Blackmagic Video Assist 12G with HDR display and designed to monitor DCI, UHD, HD images in 2K and 4K. In addition to monitoring, we can also record images to have SDI and HDMI ports. In the Video Assist 12G itself we can record in the new Blackmagic BRAW RAW codec at 12 bits, but also in ProRes or DNx at 10 bits.
More technical data: the display has a brightness of 2500 nits and comes in 2 sizes of 5 and 7 inches with a 4K resolution of 3840×2160. There are few differences between the 2 monitors, but for example the 7-inch includes 2 extra SD card slots, mini XLR inputs. It also supports HLG and PQ gamma curves and we can display images in Rec 2020, Rec 709 and DCI-P3 color spaces. It features image control graphics such as vectorscope, waveform and parade.
Being a recorder as well, it is prepared to work in complement with the rest of Blackmagic’s hardware for video recording. In addition to the HDMI and SDI ports, it has USB-C for connecting external storage devices, a multidock, etc…
In previous posts we had mentioned the monitor from Canonwhich deserves a place in this compilation of the latest models of HDR monitors. It should be noted for its 2000 nits of maximum brightness at a very competitive price for the market average.
It is impossible to mention all the monitors, but we will keep an eye out for new releases.
